The hardest part of this whole journey is finding balance - hormonally. I think that is as much emotionally as it is physically. We have this "feeling sensor" that is built into us as women! Gary Smally explained it best to me in one of his books. He said women use both sides of the brain while men use only one. They literally are left-sided users only. Women use both and that is why we feeeeell "things" so much more
So when we feeeell like "I'm not myself", "something is wrong with me", "I don't feel good". We HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION to those feelings! Not just suck it up, live with it, write it off as complaining, or worse yet IGNORE it!! We should all journal our symptoms. Write 'em down and take notice. They are not just going to go away.
Too many times we run to a doctor instead of first "listening" to our own feelings and bodies. It might be telling us "eat right" "diet", "exercise", "you should take some vitamins", "stop stressing", "laugh more", "love more", "spend time with your kids", etc.
Sometimes we do need to run to our doctors and having a comprehensive, detailed journal/list would be great . Our doctors want to help us, but if we go in with this list of symptoms and this doctor isn't trained in bioidentical hormone replacement - most of the time they will just throw us some anti depressants like Prozac for depression or God Forbid synthetic hormones made from pregnant horse urine. They do this not because they don't want to help, or don't care, it is because it is all they have been taught to do! (read what LEF has to say about the study and facts of using Prozac and depression by clicking on the links)
Suzanne Somers was on Oprah and she said she has found "the Sweet Spot". She was talking about her body "sings" in balance hormonally, physically, and emotionally. She eats right, exercises, takes minerals/herbs & supplements when needed (this is where LEF comes in). But non of that would have made a diference in her life if she did all that but did not address her imbalance of hormones by taking Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Because after all she battled and won breast cancer like this!
(SS) had all the symptoms we complain of when not hormonally balanced. She calls them her "7 Dwarfs of Menopause; Itchy, Bitchy, Sweaty, Sleepy, Bloated, Forgetful, and All Dried Up! She really explains them in detail and specifically in her book "Sexy Years".
Also read a great article that LEF wrote about "Sexy Years". Here.
We would do well... to follow her footsteps.
